Sustainability in action

A new report, “1.5-Degree Lifestyles: Towards A Fair Consumption Space for All”, from a Berlin-based think tank shows Canadians are among the world’s worst carbon emitters. We’re falling behind when it comes to cutting carbon emissions to help the world limit warming to the 1.5 C goal set by the Paris Agreement. As a major Canadian Electrical Distributor, we know we play a part in helping reach CO2 reduction goals and ensuring a healthy planet. See how we’re reducing our impact.

Waste Management

Gescan has introduced recycling programs across all corporate offices and warehouses ensuring recycling and reuse when possible of metal, wood, cardboard, as well as paper, shrink wrap and printer toner.

Branch EV charging stations

To further incentivize our staff and visitors to drive electric vehicles, we’re currently working on the installation of EV charging stations at each of our 26 locations across Canada.

Energy saving

Internally, we’ve upgraded our facilities with LED fixtures, building energy management systems, vacancy automation, improved insulation, freight door solutions and conduct energy audits. To tackle environmental issues and ensure our supply chain is as sustainably efficient where possible, we’ve also reduced business travel.

Transporting the SmartWay

Freight is 80% of our CO2 footprint. We encourage our branches and vendors to select transport partners that are actively involved in the SmartWay Transport Program, a free and voluntary program that helps businesses move goods efficiently while keeping fuel costs and environmental impact at a minimum. Hundreds of carriers and multimodal carriers, logistics companies and shippers have already committed to supporting and promoting SmartWay.

Career opportunities

Gescan is a family like no other offering an inclusive, encouraging and rewarding environment to grow your career, your way.
