Trend watch: There is a big push to transitioning into greener energy sources and digitalization. 

What do you do for fun? I love nature in all ecosystems. I like hiking, riding horses and motorcycles, photography and using drones. I’m also a SCUBA instructor. 

A series of conversations while working as a shuttle driver for a car dealership sparked a new career for Arturo Fernandez that today has him working in industrial sales for Gescan. 

Those chats, driving the vice-president for a company supplying electrical materials and technical support to industrial and residential markets, prompted Arturo to ask for a job. The rest, he says, is history. 

After working his way up from shipping and receiving to project engineering for that company, supporting clients in sectors from oil and gas and mining to agriculture and food and beverage, Arturo joined Gescan in 2022, bringing a collaborative approach to the company. 

“It is important to recognize engineers, designers, contractors and field personnel are all a piece of a big puzzle and everyone must fill and fit their part,” he says. 

While working in the industry for 16 years, education has been important to Arturo. Along with a computer science degree earned in Mexico, he obtained a certificate in process piping design from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in 2008. 

As industry pushes toward greener energy sources, with liquid natural gas (LNG) playing an increasing role in the oil and gas sector, Arturo says it is important for Gescan to be involved in the transition and support new projects being proposed as a result. 

As industrial sales needs change, Arturo will be on top of the evolution, continuing to learn and adapt to provide the same level of service, no matter what new solutions are needed.
