Trend watch: The past few years have been unique for industry trends with things like software functionality taking great strides.

What do you do for fun? I like to spend time with my family — I have four grandchildren that are fun to be with.

An electrician by trade who has embraced the ever-evolving world of automation and controls, Scot Skelton believes staying up to date on the development and reinvention of this area is a key part of his department’s work at Gescan.

Interested in the electrical industry from a young age, Scot trained to be a wireman electrician — taking his training at the B.C. Institute of Technology. After some time in the field, he joined Gescan in 1985, where he has worked on inside and outside sales, as a branch manager, regional manager and in posts as a business unit leader. Today, Scot is the business unit manager for Automation and Controls, serving as team lead and taking responsibility for control products — putting his business administration training from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology to good use.

With the understanding that automation and controls are what run Gescan’s customers’ most complex systems, Scot takes pride in knowing the company’s specialists are experts in knowing the best solution for any situation.

“With a robust hardware portfolio, new innovations in software, remote monitoring and augmented reality, we help our customers work more effectively than ever,” he says.

Looking to the future, Scot wants to grow Automation and Controls, along with a sensor and drives focus at Gescan, making this area a larger contributor to the company.
